Trump sends Illegal Migrants to India with first Flight

In early February 2025, the United States, under President Donald Trump’s administration, deported 104 Indian nationals who had entered the country illegally. These individuals were flown back to India on a U.S. military aircraft, marking the first such deportation since Trump’s return to office. The deportees arrived in Amritsar, Punjab, and were primarily from various regions across India.

This action is part of President Trump’s intensified immigration enforcement strategy, which includes utilizing military resources for deportations. The use of a military aircraft for this purpose underscores the administration’s commitment to addressing illegal immigration.

The Indian government has expressed its willingness to accept deported individuals after proper verification of their identities. This development comes ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to the United States from February 12 to 13, where he is expected to discuss various bilateral issues, including immigration, with President Trump.

According to available data, between November 2023 and October 2024, the U.S. deported 519 Indian citizens. Estimates suggest that approximately 725,000 unauthorized Indian immigrants reside in the United States, making them the third-largest group after individuals from Mexico and El Salvador.
